About 5-pin

In 5 Pin the bowler has three shots at knocking down five pins sixty feet away.

The pins targeted have different point totals associated with each, totalling 15 as follows:

  • Head pin - 5 points
  • Middle pins - 3 points each
  • Corner pins - 2 points each

Scoring terms:

  • Strike - all pins knocked down by the first ball bowled
  • Spare - all pins are knocked down by the first two balls in a frame
  • Foul - a portion of the bowler's foot or body extends beyond the foul line.
    • penalty: 15 points
  • Corner pin - When all pins knocked down with the exception of one corner pin
  • Head pin - When only the 5-pin is picked out by the first ball bowled in the frame
  • Split - the 5-pin and one of the 3-pins are knocked over by the first ball bowled
  • Aces - only the two corner pins remain standing after the first ball bowled
  • Chop-off - The 5-pin and the 3-and 2-pins on either side are knocked over by the first ball
